Free to feed – Shared culinary experiences

a testament to the power of food in bringing people together.

Nestled in the heart of Melbourne, Free to Feed is a not-for-profit social enterprise that has carved a niche in fostering an inclusive community through culinary experiences. This innovative initiative empowers refugees and people seeking asylum by utilizing their culinary skills to overcome barriers to social and economic inclusion. By creating shared food experiences, Free to Feed not only introduces Australians to rich, diverse cultures and cuisines but also provides vital employment and training to its participants.

"Our heartfelt and unique cooking experiences will take you on a food journey across the world"

Members and staff from Eclat had the privilege of attending a Free to Feed cooking class, an event that transcended mere culinary instruction. The session was led by Tayebeh, who introduced the attendees to an array of traditional Iranian dishes. As they cooked, participants shared not just recipes but stories, weaving a tapestry of personal histories with every dish prepared.

The menu featured a delightful selection of Iranian cuisine, known for its intricate flavors and traditional techniques. Dishes like Mirza Ghasemi, a smoky eggplant dip, and Tadchin Bademjan, a savory eggplant and rice cake, were not just cooked, but brought to life through Tayebeh’s narratives of her homeland. The session was a cultural and culinary journey, embodying Free to Feed’s mission to promote understanding and appreciation through food.
